I don’t believe there are any that are totally free. Many have a free trial, but then will start to bill you when the trial is over.

How to search on Usenet?

Question by Jack D: How to search on Usenet?
What is the best search engine for Usenet newsgroup that will find anything?

Best answer:

Answer by Windowphobe
“Find anything” can’t be done. There are tens of thousands of newsgroups and no one source has every last one of them.

Make sure you have an up-to-date list of the groups available to you, then pick the groups most likely to have the material you want, and then download every header in every group you’ve picked. Keep in mind that retention is not necessarily indefinite, especially with binaries: something that was there six months ago may not be there now.

What program or service do you recommend for a usenet search engine?

Question by Freedom: What program or service do you recommend for a usenet search engine?
Hello,

I am very new to usenet. I’ve got a bandwidth limit (250 Gigabytes comcast) that I am trying to maintain, I’ve discovered that downloading the headers for newsgroups that I subscribe to can be massive. I discovered that there is a usenet search engine or two (hopefully more). The two that I have tried are grabit and usenet explorer. Both seem to do the job well, however I slightly lean more towards favoring grabit, their program seems faster, easier to use and their search seems more complete. I am hoping that there are more than these two to pick from, if you know of any, I’d love to hear about them.

Thank you.

Usenet Newsgroup downloads HELP?

Question by Sammy: Usenet Newsgroup downloads HELP?
Ok, i downloaded an XBOX 360 game from usenet. When it was done downloading im missing some files. I used QuickPAR to fix them, but it couldnt get the missing files. How can i recover those missing files without redownloading the whole thing? Its only like 6 files and I guess i didnt get the PAR files for them either.

Answer by etheesdad™
sometimes newsgroups don’t have all the parts. check the headers and count them to make sure they are all present. if any headers are missing or do not have the encoded parts included, you won’t be able to assemble the file.

you need to make sure all the parts are there _before_ you download!

There are binary applications available that do all this work for you...

A Usenet group I frequent has become mired in spam. What can I do to get rid of all the spam?

Question by gogoforeman: A Usenet group I frequent has become mired in spam. What can I do to get rid of all the spam?

Best answer:

Answer by bill45310252
Because you included the word all in your question there is no answer that will get rid of ALL spam in Usenet groups. The only way to effectively reduce spam would be by Usenet itself setting policy. Even that would not be an effective means of getting rid of ALL spam….

But it would be a start.

What is the best Usenet Server?

Question by siztastical: What is the best Usenet Server?
So I have decided to sign up with a Usenet Server. Which is the best? I’ve heard good things about UsenetServer and Giganews. Giganews seems more user friendly but more expensive… What do people recommend?

Best answer:

Answer by Yahoo! Answerer
I chose Giganews. I only got one month of a Platinum account in the hopes that since I have unlimited transfer, I will download anything and everything I could possibly need within the month I have.
